Addon Release: Profile Numeric Filter

Postby Parahead » Thu Feb 03, 2005 7:01 pm

This addon is the answer to a problem many users have been facing regarding the filter=>sorting vs. sorting=>filter of newsitems in a profile. I think that this thread explains the problem best.

Anyway, this addon lets you specify if the numeric filter specififed at the profile settings page for a normal profile should be conducted before or after the profile sorting routine. This is done through a new Yes/No option available at the profile settings page.

I have developed this addon on the 1.30.x series of Coranto, but it should work on 1.24 and below as well. Let me know if you run into any problems or strange behaviour though...

Version 0.1.1 is released which is a bugfix version. For normal profiles with the default sorting enabled the 'Filter By Number' setting was disabled all together, which has now been fixed. Sorry for any inconvience...

Did some fooling around with this and found:

With simple data, items 1-7 (1 is oldest, 7 newest)
standard profile
style with no perl code, just the Coranto fields for subject, date, time

Filter after sort = NO
no filter by day set
Coranto default (reverse chronological) sort order

Result - items sorted 7-1

Filter after sort = NO
filter by day =5
Coranto default (reverse chronological) sort order

Result - items sorted 7-3

Filter after sort = YES
filter by day =5
Coranto default (reverse chronological) sort order

Result - items sorted 7-1 (all items shown)

Filter after sort = NO
no filter by day set
chronological (oldest first) sort order

Result - items sorted 1-7

Filter after sort = NO
filter by day = 5
chronological (oldest first) sort order

Result - items sorted 3-7

Filter after sort = YES
filter by day = 5
chronological (oldest first) sort order

Result - items sorted 1-5

So it appears that filter by day is not working for the default sort order when filter after sort is set to yes.

I am using Coranto 1.24
Profile Numeric Filter V 0.1.1 (Build 2)

I have Sort Orders V 2.3, but tested with it disabled.

It works on the second one here, does it not? That seems to be to be chronological order, filtered at day 5. Oldest first! As for the first one here, well the test before it produces the correct result, so I guess we say good testing on your part, we know which example to use to achieve the result required.

Reverse chronological + filter at 5 should produce: 7-3
So I think this is a bug, as reported by DaleRay

You are correct, this is a bug. I have now released 0.1.2 which should take care of this...

Just a quick reply to thank you for developing this. I know it's not an add-on that an 'everyday user' needs, but for those of us who are really trying to get quirky with how we're managing data, it's incredible helpful. I've already used it to correct the sorting on a couple of my profiles.

Parahead, are you aware this addon doesn't work with Maginot Sliced profiles? There is no option to change the filter/sort method. I wasn't sure if this was by mistake or on purpose.

Yes, I am aware of it, from the first post in this thread:

I agree that I could have been more clear about that part though. To achieve this isn't that simple actually, it requires a little modification of the core and I didn't want to make to much of an impact. Making this a part of the core would be the best and is on the TODO-list for 1.31.x
