Coranto TRANSLATION

Postby cerberos76_ » Wed Nov 10, 2004 4:11 am

Do you speak or can write in a foreign (non-english) language?
Then please help with some translation of strings for Coranto!

Your version will go into the next release!!!
If you want to help, either download Coranto 1.30.6 and translate crlang.pl, or go directly here:
http://www.-.net/cgi-bin/cr/tra/cr_translate.pl
where you can input your language easily.

thanks for your help!

P.S: even if you cannot complete it all, also introducing only a section of the text to translate will still be useful!

Very good start!

We already have:
- Norvegian (100%)
- French (100%)
- Italian (~60%)

If anyone wants to start using them:
http://www.-.net/public/cr/tra/crlang_N ... 0100560.pl
http://www.-.net/public/cr/tra/crlang_f ... 0097024.pl
(italian is already included in 1.30.6/7)

To use them simply save them in your /language folder inside coranto.
I would suggest to call them crlang_Norwegian.pl and crlang_french.pl
(I inserted a timestamp for unicity reasons in the web submission form; but will be removed in the distribution).

When new versions arrive, they are available in real time, automatically listed in:
http://www.-.net/cgi-bin/cr/tra/cr_translate.pl

The abstraction itself of sentences out of the main program is work in progress. At present I would say that about 60% of the Coranto sentences are already in the translation files, but I count to move more out in coming alpha versions....

From what I remember, Coranto used language files that went by "crl_NAME.pl", ain't that any longer so?

kriko, no. In the latest alphas the language routines changed a lot to improve the functionality.
All languages are now organised in a folder /languages with file names crlang_xxx.pl

Check out the 1.30.7 code and readme for more details

Are extended characters supported? For example, can we do Chinese / Japanese characters?

There is a metatag which defines the charset for the characters displayed by Coranto (I have to add that to the online translation script page... )
The translation itself can be done already now.

The metatag will be something like:
'ContentType' => q~<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">~,
and changing it you should be able to visualise the characters correctly, if your browser supports it.

Many browsers now tend to support unicode UTF-8, which can display characters of all sorts. An old list can be found here:
http://www.w3.org/International/O-charset-list.html
(but I believe both N and IE -based browsers have improved on that).

Hello, I just tried using UTF encoding and hebrew language (random characters of it really). It looks ok to me:

A greek version also have been prepered

Postby Gmaniac » Fri Nov 26, 2004 2:30 pm

Not ready yet but you can expect it in a few days

i worry about the charset of the submit page, because greek is not a latin charachters you must provide a submit page with "windows-1253" charset or "iso-8859-7" or else the form data could be in ascii encoding.

I have tried some very cryptic characters and they seem to work fine with UTF-8.
I would suggest you to use a text editor that supports UTF-8 and save the translation file (crlang_greek.pl) with it enabled.
(example of free UTF-8 text editors: Jedit, AB-Edit, superedi etc)

Before doing it all, you can do a few sentences with one of these editors (e.g. the login messages), save the file and check with your coranto...

I prefer vim with a utf8 enabled terminal..... It's not for everyone.....or perhaps even most people on these forums.... Perhaps for none but I.
