"Could not open file for output (writing)"

Postby Kripton » Wed Mar 17, 2004 11:27 pm

I have had some problems with nsettings (it get corrupt), and when I have resolved it and I build news, I get this error:

An error has occurred. The exact description of the error is:
Could not open file for output (writing).

The file, however, appears to exist. The most likely problem is that this script does not have permission to write to the file. If you are on a UNIX server, to solve this problem you must CHMOD 666 (or 777, depending on your server). This will allow Coranto to write to it. If you are on a Windows NT server, you must contact your system administrator.

CHMOD has been 666 always (also now), and when I change it to 777 I get same error.

What can I do?

Thank you.

NOTE: Files (.txt) are empty now. It content has been deleted (¿¿??).

I couldn´t find the post I was looking for, but I know it has been mentioned before that some webservers are wery strict on security and only allow files to be written to if they have filepermissions set to 700 (or similar), try if that works for you...
Yes, I am still around...

Isn't there supposed to be a filename in there, like "could not open file blah.txt for output"? Your sure you haven't got any profiles where you forgot to specify the output file name?
