When submit news: Could not rename newsdat.txt

Postby MariahC » Tue Jul 08, 2003 1:02 am

I am on a Windows server. I have the paths configured in cruser.pl so that they point to the correct files with permissions set in a folder outside the cgi-bin. Coranto is installed correctly with all paths correct but I get this error when I submit news:

Could not rename e:/ClientSites/DNSBased/MariahCarey/news/newsdat.txt to e:/ClientSites/DNSBased/MariahCarey/news/ndtmp2.txt

If this error indicates a problem that you don't know how to solve, see the Coranto documentation and FAQ. If these resources don't help, make a (detailed!) post to the Coranto Forum.

MESSAGE: Could not rename e:/ClientSites/DNSBased/MariahCarey/news/newsdat.txt to e:/ClientSites/DNSBased/MariahCarey/news/ndtmp2.txt

I had my host check the permissions on newsdat.txt (since I can't do it, the server is Windows mind you) and he said it was already world-writeable. I read some other threads similar to this topic and many people replied saying to delete ndtmp2.txt but there is no ndtmp2.txt in the folder, only ndtemp1.txt and when I delete that, the same thing happens. Help!

Fixed

We got it figured out! On Windows servers, "world-writeable" is not enough permissions for the directory that newsdat.txt is in; you have to have special permissions set by the host so Coranto can create files, rename them, and delete them.

That might be the case of your hosting company.
With 'normal' windows servers a world writable folder comes also with creation, rename and delete permissions.
Usually you do not have to ask anything to any hosting I installed Windows, as it works out of the box...
